These are the chiropractic manipulative treatment (CMT) codes used to bill spinal manipulation, depending on the number of spinal regions treated: 98940 1-2 regions 98941 3-4 regions 98942 All five The documentation needs to specify the regions treated, not just give a count.
Medicare Part B only covers manual spinal manipulation for the correction of a documented subluxation. The covered codes are CPT 98940-98942 with the AT modifier. Chiropractic exams, x-rays, therapy modalities and maintenance care are not covered. Those require an Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) if you plan on billing the patient.
